The Origin Story

How It Started

I struggled to get motivated and follow up on my commitments to myself for years. I would say I want to do this and I will do that but time after time I would fail to work on myself. Since I wasn’t working to better myself, the things I did want to change always seemed worse than the day before. After several years, the frustration of not getting better and watching myself stay the same built up until I felt like I couldn’t do anything because there were so many things I needed to work on. I needed a way to stay focused on one improvement at a time.

The Bowl of Rocks

I was walking by a store and noticed a bowl of rocks for sale. The smooth multicolored rocks had words of motivation and affirmation on them. I thought this is what I want to look like. A person filled to the brim with positive qualities. I picked one up and knew that this small rock was going to change my life. All I needed were small reminders that would keep me focused on what I wanted to improve upon and it worked! I found myself carrying around a token with me everywhere I went. Any time I reached into my pocket I was reminded to continue to get better than the day before.

Improving the Method

After a few weeks I was making progress on several traits and had exceeded my expectations. I started looking for ways to improve this method and found that, in addition to carrying a token, having one at my desk helped me remember to drink water and fix my posture. Next I figured if I had one in my car then it could help me create safer driving habits and remind me to not get so much fast food. With just a few of these tokens I felt like I was able to do so much more than I originally imagined.

Empowering Growth Through HABBITS

Weeks of progress snowballed into months and soon I didn’t even recognize the person I was before. I only recognized the person I am becoming. Happier, stronger, focused, and more productive. At this point I knew that there were other people, like I was, struggling to find a way out. That is why I have created HABBITS. To help people create an infrastructure on which anyone can work on and improve themselves.
